James L. Halferty has been active in the California real estate industry for over 45 years. As Founder of Halferty Development Company in 1980, he has achieved a reputation as an innovator in the interrelated fields of design, construction, marketing and finance.
Mr. Halferty holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities from the University of Southern California, and places a strong emphasis on humanitarian concerns throughout his business dealings. This emphasis is reflected in the quality of the work places his Company creates, as well as in the quality and character of the Company he has built.
He began his career in real estate in 1970 in the marketing and sales division of The Lusk Company, a highly regarded residential developer, based in Irvine, California. In 1971, he established himself as a commercial broker in the Los Angeles office of Coldwell Banker & Company (now CB Richard Ellis) – the largest commercial brokerage firm in the United States – and in 1976 was honored as a Top Ten salesman. He left Coldwell Banker in 1977 to become a joint venture partner/developer of neighborhood shopping centers with Duckett-Wilson Development Company. When the three-year joint venture was completed, he began developing neighborhood shopping centers under the moniker of his own development company, then expanded into the development and management of commercial office buildings.
His professional affiliations include membership in the International Council of Shopping Centers (I.C.S.C.)
He served for over seven years on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Center Operating Company (PCOC) and he served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Civic Center Foundation.
